Poster from the movie Iron Man.I am a comic book geek… yeah i admit it.  Unfortunately i sold my collection years ago to pay rent.  I’ve seen most of the comic book movies that have come out.  Some were great (X-Men, Sin City, V for Vendetta), some were OK (Fantastic Four, Daredevil) and some were AWFUL (The Punisher - which is my all time favorite comic… sigh).  Anyway last night i went to see Iron Man.  I had been very excited to see it ever since i heard that Robert Downey Jr had been cast as Tony Stark (who better to play an eccentric alcoholic billionaire?)  was i disappointed? Not at all.  This movie was great, Downey was in a word perfect as Tony Stark and Gwyneth Paltrow was wonderful as Pepper Potts.  The only casting choice that was strange to me was Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane.  Now don’t get me wrong, he did a great job with it (it must be a blast playing a villain like Stane) however my all time favorite movie happens to be The Big Lebowski and it was more than a little weird to see “the dude” being a bad guy.  I took my children with me (ages 7 and 9) and there were a couple of scenes that were a little age inappropriate, however the movie was rater PG-13 so i wasn’t that suprised.  As far as highlights go I loved Tom Morello’s (of Rage Against the Machine fame) and Stan Lee’s cameos and Downey’s over-the-top (in a good way) antics as Stark, my kids loved the scenes where Stark was testing out his new versions of the armor, and his banter with the robots in his workshop.  As far as comic book movies go this one is pretty good and i would recommend it to comic junkies and non-comic junkies alike.
