so what industrial sex rock anyway?
So this weekend Courtney and i were out at a bar and talking to some new people we had met and told them we were in a band, they of course asked the question that comes next: “What kind of music do you play?” We responded with “Industrial Sex Rock” and were met with curious but confused looks. In the course of explaining what that meant it occurred to us that some people out there might have the same question. So here is the official circuitse7en take on industrial sex rock.
Industrial sex rock is a blending of industrial music, modern rock with a healthy dose of sex fueled vocals. So what is Industrial music? Industrial music is a loose term for a number of different styles of experimental music, especially but not necessarily electronic music. It generally employs the basic instrumentation of found objects, white noise blasts, electronic music gear (synthesizers, sequencers, samplers, and drum machines) The addition of guitars (in our case alto-bass) adds in the rock and roll influence. The heavy dose of sex is added in courtesy of the sex filled lyrics which discuss everything from threesomes to pearl necklaces to dirty sanchezs… All of this together combines to form industrial sex rock…
So are there other industrial sex rock bands out there? Definitely! The first ones that pops to mind for me would be Lords of Acid. There are other acts who also include one of more of the three elements though not all of the time. Rob Zombie, Combichrist, Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, Celldweller, Aphex Twin, and Frontline Assembly are all examples of this (and all worth checking out, if you haven’t yet)
