Hump Day - Behind the Scenes - Ableton Live
While we’re busy creating music i thought it would be cool to give you a look behind the scenes at how it’s made. Ableton Live 8 is the current core of my musical life. Over the years I have tried most of the major DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) out there, and have found the Live not only works wonderfully, but exactly the way i want it to. Also as the name might imply Live is perfectly geared for live performance too.
My first encounter with Ableton Live occurred when my beta key for Pro Tools expired and i had neither the time nor the money to get a new copy. I had received a NFR (Not for resale) copy of Live through my job (managing a big box music store) and decided to give it a go. Even though i had never used Live before i quickly discovered that it worked just the way i would want it to. I finished the project i was working on, a remix album for sitarist Chris Freeman (on iTunes) and was amazed with the results i achieved.
Recently, while re-imagining our live show i started to learn of how easy it is to use Live… LIVE. EVERYTHING is tempo locked and completely controllable. With the twist of a knob or the push of a button or the swipe of a finger on my iPod Touch i can add amazing effects and transitions that were previously only in my head…
If you are a musician i would encourage you to check out Ableton Live. You can download and demo the software for 30 days for FREE. Check it out and let me know what you think.
